Lateral Entry is a system that allows people with a bachelor’s degree in a non-educational field to begin teaching immediately with a temporary teacher license. These programs require taking certain college courses and eventually the states teacher licensure exam. (These programs may included supervision and mentoring)
Usually this is more common in areas where there is a teacher shortage. (There are many areas of the country that are currently in a teacher shortage.) Check with your State Board of Education or your county school system for more information.
