I am a High School Special Education and Social Studies Teacher. I began my career as an Intervention Coordinator Counselor in 2002 with the Wake County Public School System. Understanding the commitment, sacrifice, dedication, and positive attitude it takes to turn successful children into successful adults is what fuels my love of teaching and mentoring children. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my daughter and coaching athletics.

Currently Elementary School Teacher/Former Special Education Teacher
Years of experience: 9

I am currently a elementary school teacher and have been teaching for 9 years. I started my career in an emotional support, special education classroom. After 6 years, I decided to move to a regular 4th grade classroom. My experiences have taught me a lot about differentiating instruction for individual students and strategies for being an effective teacher. Along with my teaching experiences, I have learned a lot about child development through raising three kids of my own.

Lateral Entry Contender

This new journey of my life began in November 2008. I spent the winter, spring and summer of soul searching and trying to decide if I really wanted to be a teacher. The answer was YES! In August 2009 I started in the a Masters program in Louisiana. The first year was fun and exciting but challenging as well. It had been eight years since I was in school and I am working as well. With the help of great professors, friends and family this first year of school has flown by. I am beginning my 2nd year of the program this fall, and I am also contending for a lateral entry position to begin teaching.

History of How Our Site Was Started

Hi, My name is Michael. I am a former teacher, and now a practicing family therapist. I never lost the love of teaching nor the respect I have for those that do it. At one point I considered going back to school to become a special education teacher.

Though I did not decide to go back to teaching for various reasons, I did notice that when I was searching for degree programs I had to search through many different sites that seemed to have little real information on the specific programs I wanted. Also there was no real information about what it was like to be a special education teacher. This was frustrating to say the least.

While searching for degree programs I knew exactly what I was looking for and the questions I wanted answered, but I could not find this information online. After some time had passed I was thinking about my experience and realized that this information should be available to those considering teaching. I decided to team up with some of my former colleagues and some new ones as well. We created a website that would have important and specific details on becoming a teacher and choosing a path to pursue that career.…and the site was born.

I now help operate this site to stay connected to the world of teaching. I continue my practice of therapy, and enjoy the work I do there as well. The site is continually updated with new information regarding teacher programs, opportunities, as well as general advice and answers to new questions. We are also proud to be able to offer a $1000 scholarship through our foundation. Please feel free to email me any comments or suggestions on how this site can better serve you.

Sincerely ,

Michael Kovach
